This title track from the Power of Ten’s CD has 3 distinct sections, each relating to one another. The dramatic conducted first section features a rubato tempo and mixed meter, exposing the primary theme that is further explored in the 2 sections that follow. The second section in 6/4 is very Afro-Cuban and might remind you of early Yellow Jackets grooves. The final minimalist section features a drum solo before the return to the 6/4 groove and climax to the end.
Soprano soloist in the opening section who gets a chance to improvise into the open lid and strings of an acoustic piano to produce an unusual affect! Electric or acoustic bass is fine the the recording features electric. Solos can be opened up for nearly anyone, though the recording features trombone and vibes.
